SMILE! Sunshine Chocolate Orange Slices, healthy shots, + more in this week’s edition of Happy Things , Healthy Living Tips!

Smile! These Chocolate Orange Slices are a healthy and delicious treat, bound to put a smile on your face! | Learn how to make 'em at The Spicy RD | Recipe is vegan, gluten free, and low FODMAP

These scrumptious Sunshine Chocolate Orange Slices {Gluten Free, Vegan, Grain Free, & Low FODMAP}, made with fresh oranges from my tree, Taza Coco Besos {Amazon Affiliate link}, and Sea Salt were a big hit the other day when I shared them on Instagram. This was my first time trying Taza Chocolate, and it was SO yummy on it’s own, but even better on top of fresh orange slices, with a sprinkle of sea salt~a perfect bit of heaven when you’re craving a healthy treat!

Make ’em!–> Peel and slice 1 orange, and lay slices on a piece of parchment paper laid on top of a plate. Melt ~ 1 ounce of your favorite dark chocolate {preferably 70% or more cacao} in the microwave, then dip 1/2 of an orange slice in the chocolate, repeating with all of the slices, and lay them on the parchment paper. Sprinkle w/ sea salt, then place plate in refrigerator to cool, and allow chocolate to harden. Enjoy!!

I love my job!!! These beautiful roses are from my lovely client who is feeling fabulous 1 1/2 months after starting her customized elimination diet. When we 1st met, she was truly feeling horrible & had been to multiple doctors who said they couldn’t help her w/ her stomach pain. Now, she is positively glowing & I am so happy for her!!! As a bonus, she has gotten super creative in the kitchen & still gets to eat her chocolate too! This truly makes me SO happy ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

“Healthy Food for a Happy World” ~ I love the slogan at the new Flower Child Restaurant that recently opened here in Del Mar where Mr. Spicy and I had the opportunity to enjoy a “date night” with complimentary food at their pre-opening in December.

Everything we tried was absolutely delicious, including the Madras Curry, Indian Spiced Cauliflower + Yuzu Brussels Sprouts, plus beer, wine, & kombucha are on tap too. If you’re in Del Mar, or in Northern San Diego, you MUST make a visit~I’d love to run into you! {Click here to see the Flower Child Del Mar Menu with LOTS of gluten free and vegan options that really are delicious!}

Get your daily dose of probiotics for a healthy microbiome with Farmhouse Culture Smoked Jalapeno Gut Shots | Favorite healthy foods and brands at The Spicy RD

I think I mentioned in this post, that I was sick for most of December. These probiotic packed Smoked Jalapeno Gut Shots from Farmhouse Culture definitely came to my rescue, along with some time in bed reading my favorite Sunset Magazine. Have you tried the gut shots yet? Each bottle {11 servings} contains 110 billion CFUs {colony forming units} of Lactic Acid Bacteria at the time of manufacture, making them a good addition to add to your probiotic arsenal {i.e. yogurt, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, kombucha, tempeh, and more}, and, they’re pretty tasty too!

Watching the sunset at Del Mar Beach is one of my favorite things to do! | San Diego, California Travel

I know we are spoiled rotten by the weather here in San Diego, but we just finished up with 6 straight days of {much needed} rain. And, since these guys and I were going a bit stir crazy, I took them for a hike on the beach the other afternoon. It was actually still raining a little when we started our hike, AND it was high tide, so we got kinda’ wet, AND I managed to lose my car keys, so we ended up walking an extra 2 miles home, but it was TOTALLY worth it for this gorgeous sunset!

And, before I go…

  1. Last week I shared my Happy Belly Green Banana Flour Brownie Bites with you, along with some of the health benefits of resistant starch for digestive health, and overall health. If you’re interested in learning more, I highly recommend this informative post from Kate Scarlata, RDN: Resistant Starch: What is it? Why do we care?
  2. ย Although the rain has been put on hold for a while, the temps here in San Diego have dipped into the 40s at night, so this Slow Cooker Quick and Easy Chicken Cacciatore from Sonali at The Foodie Physician is calling my name!
  3. I LOVE this post by Haley Goodrich, RD at WellSeek–> Nourished is the New Healthy. If you struggle with the notion that you must “eat clean” to be healthy, take a peek at Haley’s post {it’s a quick read} and let me know what you think.

    I love this breezy post and all of your links. I am away to read Kate’s article (and look up your banana flour brownie bites) and Haley’s article for starters. And that sunset should be a screensaver! PS I do dip orange slices in chocolate but not with the membrane removed (far too lazy), and with imported of course. *sigh* xx
