Sweet Potato Fries Nutrition

Are sweet potato fries healthier than regular fries? Kind of! Here’s how they compare per 100 grams (about 3.5 ounces), based on USDA data:

Per 3.5 ouncesBaked Sweet Potato FriesFried Sweet Potato FriesFried Regular Fries
Calories162194196
Fat9 g13 g13 g
Fiber3 g3 g1.5 g
Vitamin A97% DV93% DV0% DV

A few things stand out:

The cooking method matters more than the potato. Fried sweet potato fries have about the same calories as regular fries. Baking saves you about 30 calories and 4 grams of fat per serving. Extra virgin olive oil provides heart-healthy MUFA’s (monounsaturated fatty acids) and is low in saturated fat.

Sweet potato fries win big on vitamin A. They’re packed with beta-carotene, which your body converts to vitamin A for healthy vision, skin, and immune function. Regular fries have none. Beta-carotene is fat-soluble, so the olive oil helps you absorb it. (1)

Double the fiber. Sweet potato fries have about twice as much fiber as regular fries, which supports gut health.

One serving of oven-baked sweet potato fries with feta cheese has approximately 180 calories, 4 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, and only 3 grams of saturated fat.

Recipe Tips & Notes for The Best Baked Fries

  • Cut them evenly. Aim for 1/4 to 1/2 inch fries so they cook evenly. Thinner fries get crispier, while thicker ones stay softer in the middle.
  • Give them space. Spread the fries in a single layer. Crowded fries steam instead of crisping up.
  • Use convection if you have it. The convection setting helps crisp up your sweet potato fries.
  • Add the feta last. Sprinkling it on after baking keeps it creamy and tangy.
  • Keeping it real. These baked sweet potato fries are SO delicious, but they’re not as crispy as traditional fries. But with feta on top, you won’t be disappointed!
