Gluten Free in San Diego and Around the World!

This is a list of restaurants with gluten free menu offerings. Please note, unless otherwise stated, most of these restaurants are NOT dedicated gluten free. If you have celiac disease, please check with the restaurant ahead of time to see if they can ensure cross contamination does not occur.

  • Healthy Creations {Dedicated Gluten Free}
  • Nectarine Grove {Dedicated Gluten Free}
  • Starry Lane Bakery {Dedicated Gluten Free}
  • Too Good To Be Bakery {Dedicated Gluten Free} I can thank my mother-in-law for introducing me to the delicious artisan bread and home made pies at this gluten-free bakery and cafe in Encinitas.  Besides bread and pies, you’ll find cakes, cookies, and brownies, plus an extensive breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu.  If you’re in the neighborhood, I highly recommend the rosemary bread!
  • Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza
  • The Prado at Balboa Park One of my favorite restaurants near downtown San Diego.  Fun decor, in gorgeous Balboa Park, plus several delicious gluten-free options on the menu.  I dined here with Alice Bast, President of The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, and the staff was very attentive and knowledgeable on the gluten-free diet.
  • Del Mar Rendezvous Gluten-free Chinese food. Ask for the gluten-free menu!
  • Solana Beach Crush Several gluten-free options on the menu, including gluten-free pasta.
  • Claire’s on Cedros A breakfast and lunch favorite of mine with lot’s of gluten-free options on the menu.  Love the bathroom here too!
  • PF Changs (multiple locations throughout the US)
  • Market Restaurant Del Mar There is no printed gluten free menu, however, at a recent meal there, the waiter automatically asked everyone at our table if anyone had any food allergies or sensitivities.  I had a fabulous gluten free meal, and received a special gluten free amuse-bouche.
  • Crepes and Corks Restaurant and Wine Bar This is a cozy little cafe and wine bar in Del Mar.  If you are craving crepes, they have a gluten free {Buckwheat} option available.  On my last visit, they had run out of their gluten-free batter, but were happy to whip up a new batch for me.
  • Tender Greens {UTC, Point Loma, Downtown San Diego} Lots of healthy and delicious gluten-free menu options, using high quality ingredients from local, small farms.  Try the Salami and Kale Salad with Crispy Chickpeas-it’s delish!
  • Urban Plates {Del Mar Highlands} Similar in concept to Tender Greens, this restaurant with several gluten-free options noted on the menu, is where I got my inspiration for this delicious Raw Power Salad.

  • Mariposa Baking Company {Dedicated Gluten Free} I haven’t been to the main location in Oakland, CA, but I have been to the San Francisco Ferry Building Shop Kiosk the last two times I was in San Francisco.  The sesame seed bagels are yummy, as are the coffee cake and cinnamon rolls.  Certain items are available for shipping.
  • Picasso’s Organic Italian Kitchen Extensive gluten-free menu including pizza, pasta, and salads.  My friend and I shared the Kale Caesar Salad and a Veggie Loaded Pizza.  Delicious!

  • Babycakes NYC {Dedicated Gluten Free}I had the chance to visit Babycakes on a trip to NYC with my family.  We went on a subway adventure in the freezing rain.  But it was worth it.  We sampled the cupcakes and brownies which were yummy, but I especially enjoyed the crumb cake.
