So excited for the 2nd Recipe ReDux: Summer beverages!
Inspired by these…
I decided to do a twist on a summertime favorite, the ice cream float.
To “healthify” it a little, I swapped out the ice cream for homemade frozen yogurt {complete with good buggies for your GI tract}, and subbed in sparkling water and juice for the usual soda.
The result?
A seriously delicious and refreshing treat for a hot summertime day!
Here’s my concoction…
Gingery Peach Float
Ginger Peach Frozen Yogurt
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup yogurt {I used whole milk yogurt, but you could use lowfat yogurt instead}
- 1/2 cup fresh ginger, thinly sliced
- 4 whole fresh peaches, pitted, skinned and cut into chunks
- 3/4 cup sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Combine the milk and sliced ginger in a saucepan and heat until almost boiling, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes. Pour milk and ginger over strainer in to a blender.
- Add the yogurt, chopped peaches, sugar, and pinch of salt to the blender and combine until smooth.
- Place mixture in refrigerator until cool.
- Follow manual per ice cream maker instructions. I used a Cuisinart Ice -20 and after 20 minutes, my fro yo was soft serve consistency. I transferred it to the freezer for 2hours for a firmer consistency for the float.
For the Float
- 2 scoops Ginger Peach Frozen Yogurt
- 1/2 cup peach juice {I used Trader Joes Dixie Peach}
- 1/2 cup sparkling water {You can use plain sparkling water or try one of my faves, Ayala’s Sparkling Ginger Lemon Peel Herbal Water, for an extra zing of ginger!}
Scoop ice cream in to glass and top with peach juice and sparkling water.
If, for some reason, floats don’t rock your boat, feel free to eat the fro yo straight up!

Ahh, the photos alone draw me in – and I love me some ginger in a drink. And fun that we get frozen yogurt recipe and a drink recipe all rolled into one!
I love this recipe, but I don’t have an ice cream maker. Any ideas for how to make this work without one? I would love to try it!
I think the mixture would firm up nicely in the freezer, plus you could make Popsicles out of it
I dont even know what to say, except this looks absolutely amazing!! I need to print out all these delicious drinks! Yumm!!
I drink Ayala Herbal Waters as well…what a great way to use them. You’ve inspired me with the lovely pictures!!!
