Happy Spicy RD 2nd Birthday: Chocolate Cupcakes & A Giveaway!

chocolate cupcakes {gluten-free & grain free}Happy Birthday to Me…Happy Birthday to you…

No, no, no… It’s not my birthday today, but it’s even better because I’m not turning another year older {yet!}, but The Spicy RD blog is which I think is a pretty good reason to celebrate.

And, honestly, I couldn’t have done it without all of you! Your sharing and comments…sweet…short…and sometimes sassy…make all of this blogging stuff fun, which, to me, is truly what it’s all about.

So, as my thanks to you {THANK YOU!!!}, I have a fun giveaway, plus some fabulous cupcakes to share…

chocolate cupcakes {gluten-free & grain free}The recipe for these chocolate cupcakes {gluten-free & grain free} is not my creation, but something I’ve been wanting to make since I pinned it the other day to my “Gluten-Free Baked Goods to Make” board. You can get the recipe over at Amy Valpone’s lovely blog, The Healthy Apple. Amy’s version uses pistachio nuts, but since I somehow had 3 bags of cashew nuts hiding out in my freezer, I decided to use those instead.  The cupcakes are delicious on their own, but take Amy’s advice, and add a little nut butter on top for a really scrumptious treat!

As for the giveaway, I had to buy myself a blog birthday present {of course}, so I thought it would be fun to give a present to you too!

The book, On Food and Cooking:  The Science and Lore of The Kitchen, has been on my Amazon wish list since last year {ahem, Mr Spicy…if you are reading this…no need to buy the book for me now!}

On Food and Cooking by Harold McGeeFor those of you unfamiliar with the book, here are a few words about it…

On Food and Cooking is an invaluable and monumental compendium of basic information about ingredients, cooking methods,and the pleasures of eating.  It will delight and fascinate anyone who has ever cooked, savored, or wondered about food. {Editorial Review}

This book is a treasure trove of useful facts and unusual information and a must for every cook who possesses an inquiring mind. {Daniel Boulud, chef-owner of Daniel and Cafe Boulud}

Harold McGee possesses that most rare combination: a scientist’s skill and a cook’s heart.” {Rick Bayless, autohor of Rick Bayless’s Mexican Kitchen and Mexico One Plate at a Time.}

Essentially, it is the “bible” for those who like to cook {and I really hope you all like to cook!}

  1. Awe; you are SO kind. Thank you so much for mentioning me in here. You are fabulous darling; so excited for your new work! Have a great week.

  2. Happy 2nd Birthday..your blogs are always very fun to read because there is always some inspiring story to read. I get to learn a lot of nutrition related news, new healthy recipes and how cooking at home is possible 🙂 I would love to win the hard cover book, Have a great birthday and please pass these delicious cupcakes this way!

  3. Aw honey, happy birthday!! I LOVE your blog and I think it is perfect the way it is (really), but I am all for expansion and positive changes. I can’t wait to see what direction you take an already fabulous read. I appreciate your emphasis on healthy family-friendly recipes (plenty of the indulgent stuff elsewhere, although your take is still with a health-streak so more of the healthy indulgent please!), and as a fellow nutrition nerd I love nutrition facts. Hmm, what else? Fitness and family are high on my agenda, so more please. One thing I would say is that the images sometimes take awhile to load (but faster than a lot of others) so may be that can be considered too. I would of course like to win a Kindle copy of On Food and Cooking. It certainly appeals to the latent scientist in me. Hope you are celebrating turning 2 in Spicy RD style!

  4. Happy Blog Birthday!!!
    I think you have a great blog! I like that you share your family with the readers, I also enjoy your healthy meals, fitness tips… Keep up the great work!

    I have also been eyeing that book for a looong time! I would love to win a hard copy! Thank you for the opportunity.

  5. Not sure if this is a “good” suggestion or not… but here it goes.
    1. There are obviously as many “diet plans” as there are spokesmodels. I know that many are good while many, not-so-much. I’m wondering if you would explore a possible monthly segment on diet plans. Pros/Cons of various plans. Who the plan is good for, not good for, etc. Just a thought 🙂

    2. Hard copy pls. I’m a cook book lover. Even like when the pages get a little messy. lol

    Hope your blog has a very happy birthday!! Can’t wait to see the “changes” 🙂

  6. This might sound ridiculous but I really like the format of your blog. It’s clean, the pictures aren’t too in your face, and it’s easy to navigate. The family friendliness is great too, but the format makes me happy.

    I love hard copies of cookbooks (:

  7. Happy Blogiversary! So glad we ‘met’ through the wonderful world of blogging. =) The things I love most on your blog are the weekly menu plans + the healthy weeknight meals. =)

  8. Happy birthday to the Spicy RD blog!! I’ve so loved reading all your posts – you are seriously one of my fav bloggers. Love the balance of indulgent and healthy recipes along with glimpses into your personal life – look forward to seeing the new look of the blog – so exciting!!

  10. Happy Blogaversary!! That is one of my favorite reference books in the kitchen!

  11. YAY!!!! Happy Birthday to Spicy RD, Woo Hoo:-) I love your blog, and really don’t have any thoughts, I love everything you share! If I won a copy, I would love a hard copy of that fantastic book. Your muffins look so puffy and with chocolatey happiness! YUM, Hugs, Terra

  12. I have enjoyed all the information I have gotten from your blog….and your previous giveaways. I couldn’t even begin to tell you what changes to make, your site has worked so well for me in the past so I have no complaints! I would love to win a hard copy of the book and I look forward the the changes you make on your blog!

  14. Happy ‘Blogiversary!!!’ Love that term, Swanky!! Very appropriate!!! I love your photography Spicy so keep on doing what you are doing, I find your food photography (and personal) very mesmerizing. I like simple and nutritious recipes myself and I think it is GREAT to catch a glimpse of your personal life, so don’t change that!!!
    I prefer the hard copy version, looks like a FABULOUS read!!!

  15. Hey! Its a good week for birthdays! 🙂 Happy Birthday, Spicy RD!

  17. Happy birthday to your blog! So exciting! I love to read about your travels, but mostly because I love to travel and therefore I love to see what people are up to also. I also enjoy all of your recipes, so keep them coming. If I win (fingers crossed!), I would like the hard copy.

  18. Happy, happy Birthday to your blog!

    I really like your blog the way it is. I think it’s a nice mixture. Simple recipes are always good as I tend to not try too many new “complicated” recipes… 🙂

  19. Happy birthday! I’d love to help you out but I am a creature of habit and I love your blog the way it is.

    If I should happen to win I’d love the hard copy 🙂

  20. Shoot. I missed the deadline. Either way, I love your blog and the combo of recipes provide. Your knowledge comes through without being boring or preachy. I love the occasional shot into your life as well. Sorry, not much help on things to improve. I am coming on my 2 year blog bday too! Actually next week! 🙂

  21. This is my first time visit at here and i am in fact
    happy to read everthing at single place.
