Sunset

New Year's Day Sunset 2013 Happy 2013 Friends! I hope everyone's new year is off to a fabulous start! I've said it here before, and I'll say it again... I'm not really a resolution kind of gal. What about you?? If you are, full steam ahead! But for me, most of my past resolutions have been short-lived, and the older I get {and wiser :-)}, the more on want to focus on lasting changes that will really make a meaningful difference in the long run. So, although I don't make traditional "resolutions", I am big on lifelong … [Read more...]

Stay Fit This Summer Family Style {Fun Giveaway Too!}

summertime fitness {family style} poster

The kids have been out of school for 2 weeks now, so my fitness routine {if you can call it a routine since I am used to "last minute" workouts right before the kids get out of school} has become a little wonky.  Not wonky as in "bad wonky", but wonky as in "good wonky" :-) Instead of bemoaning the lack of time I have to exercise this summer, I've decided to suck it up and embrace the chaos in my life with the kids out of school, and stay fit with them family style. One thing my kids and their friends have taught me {ok they have taught … [Read more...]

My Top Ten Tips For Raising Lifelong Healthy Eaters.

eatplayloveblog

Welcome to my first Top Ten Post! I wrote this post as a participant in the Eat, Play, Love blog carnival hosted by Meals Matter and Dairy Council of California to share ideas on positive and fun ways to teach children healthy eating habits. A list of other registered dietitians and moms who are participating in the carnival will be listed at the bottom of this post or can be found on Meals Matter. As fate would have it, last week I gave a nutrition talk to the parents at my children's elementary school, and as part of the talk I … [Read more...]

Confessions of a Perfectly Imperfect Dietitian Mom

confessionsblog

This morning I was at a PTA meeting at my children's school.  One of the moms had brought in some delicious looking {and delicious tasting from what I hear} chocolate chip bars.  The mom, knowing I'm a dietitian, mentioned to me, jokingly {I think!}, that she wouldn't have served chocolate chip bars for breakfast if she had known I was going to be there.  Well... Here's the thing... Had they been gluten-free, I DEFINITELY would have eaten one, and I would have enjoyed it, guilt free, because MOST mornings I eat pretty healthy foods for … [Read more...]

My dirty little secret…

dirtysinkblog

OK everyone.  I have a dirty little secret to confess. And I need your help.  Desperately. This was my sink yesterday morning.  FULL of dirty dishes.  And, I don't have a picture of it to show you, but my counter top was covered with dirty dishes as well, because there was NO room left in the sink for them. Clearly I have a DIRTY little problem. Or, maybe its a dirty BIG problem, because when I wake up in the morning with a messy kitchen and a sink overflowing with dishes, it really sets the tone for how the rest of my day is … [Read more...]

Just in time for the holidays. My top ten stress relievers.

stressblog

Healthy eating and exercise are great for keeping stress under control, but sometimes a little extra help is in order to get us in to that zen state.  And, with the holiday season quickly upon us, I thought now would be a good time to share my top 10 stress relievers. Here they are (in no particular order)... Take some deep breaths.  Nothing fancy here-just take several long, deep breaths in through your nose, and slowly exhale through your mouth. Turn on the tunes.  I love most all types of music-rock, alternative, pop, jazz, big … [Read more...]
